German III
Students will become reacquainted
with the German language, and the Imperfekt and Perfekt tenses of German verbs.
Through reading Till Eulenspiegel from the text von Helden und
Schelmen, Students will improve their speaking and listening comprehension
skills through the daily practice of “September Ausdrücke” (September
expressions).
German I
The main purpose of this unit will
be for students to become familiar with basic building blocks of the German
language. The focus will be on the
alphabet, numbers 1-20, basic greetings/farewells, and some useful daily
classroom expressions. Objectives will
be accomplished through the use of various instructional activities and
techniques.
German II
Chapter One, Bei den Baumanns, is designed to serve as a review chapter for
level two German students. This chapter will provide students the opportunity
to review vocabulary learned in level one German studies that deal with
appearance, interests, sports, personality, etc. Students will also have the
opportunity to review key grammatical concepts such as the conjugation of haben, to have, and sein, to be. Students
will also review the grammar rules associated with conjugation in general. In
addition to basic verb rules, students will once again be exposed to possessive
adjectives and modal verbs. Students will also have the opportunity to explore
a short story entitled Hamburger und
Weisswurst. The story utilizes basic grammar that will demonstrate the
importance of the chapter’s grammar themes. It will also provide the basis for
a cultural discussion. All of the unit’s objectives will be achieved through a
variety of activities designed to enhance students’ communicative abilities in
writing, reading, speaking and listening.
German AP
This unit has been designed to
review grammar and vocabulary covered in previous German courses. Grammar topics to be covered include present
tense of regular and irregular verbs, past tense forms, and model auxiliary
verbs. Through the reading selection, Der
Struwwelpeter ( Slovenly Peter), found in the text Von Weisen und Narren,
students will learn about a popular figure of German folktales. Students will discover the origins of these
“cautionary tales” by Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann. Through the daily oral practice of
“September Ausdruecke”, students will perfect their comprehension and
pronunciation of spoken German.
